The Practice

The design philosophy of Hoxha Bailey Architects is founded on values of regional modernism. Our projects are strongly driven by a contextual response to topography, climate, views, and the concept of prospect and refuge. Underpinning every project is our commitment to a rigorously resolved and efficient floor plan, and a considerate use of space and materials.

The Partners

After a longstanding professional association, Jason Bailey and Pashtrik Hoxha formally teamed up as directors in late 2018. Hoxha Bailey Architects was launched at the beginning of 2020.

Jason Bailey

B.A., B.Arch. (hons), ANZIA

Jason Bailey studied Arts and Architecture at the University of Auckland and became a registered architect in 1996. He started his own practice in 2000 and has since produced an extensive built portfolio of new homes and renovations. 2006 marked the completion of the Bailey ‘live and work’ premises in Grafton.  A few years later, the practice shifted office to the West Lynn Village: a convenient base for our many projects in Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, and Herne Bay. Jason meanwhile renovated a hillside cabin in the coastal settlement of Piha, and this became a weekend counterpoint to city life for over a decade.  In 2017 Jason. came across a spacious studio above the shops in Three Lamps, Ponsonby, where the Hoxha Bailey team is now based. In 2020 Jason and Heather, along with Oscar the Irish Terrier, relocated to the Sunshine Coast. Jason now works remotely from his home office and makes regular trips back to Auckland.

Pashtrik Hoxha

BAS, B.Arch, PigDip ARB Part 3, RIBA

Pashtrik graduated from the University of Auckland School of Architecture in 2005 and subsequently completed his postgraduate studies at the University College of London, Bartlett School of Architecture. His architectural career began while working for Jason Bailey as an architectural graduate. Since then, he has built a solid portfolio of projects in residential architecture throughout Auckland and became immersed in classical architecture while based in London for six years. After returning to NZ, he became a director at Hoxha Bailey Architects in 2018. Pashtrik is dedicated to delivering beautiful spaces. He enjoys collaborating closely with his clients to shape ideas into built form. Pashtrik lives in Auckland with his wife and two young sons and heads the team at the Ponsonby studio.

The Studio

Our spacious open plan workspace is upstairs in the Govorko Building (1939), at the Three Lamps precinct in the dynamic suburb of Ponsonby. The diverse skills of the Hoxha Bailey team ensures that every project will benefit from ongoing collaboration: teamwork from within the studio, expert professional input from our external specialist consultants and construction professionals, and of course the ongoing involvement of our clients. We value the resulting depth and variety in our portfolio.

Kellie Kernohan

MArch (Prof), BAS

Kellie completed her Master of Architecture through Victoria University of Wellington. She completed stints in the UK and Australia before settling in Auckland. Kellie has worked for Hoxha Bailey Architects for almost a decade in various capacities. From heritage restorations to complex architectural new builds, she is typically involved with the projects until the completion of their construction. From design work, consent documentation, interior consultation and construction observation, Kellie is across most aspects of the daily operations within the Hoxha Bailey office. Kellie's greatest joy in her role is seeing the completion of beautiful, sympathetic architectural responses to place and people – homes that bring their occupants great joy and comfort.

Mark Mildon

M.Arch (Prof)(Hons), BAS

Mark graduated in 2019 with a Master of Architecture degree from Unitec Institute of Technology. After several years working in Auckland, Mark joined the Hoxha Bailey team in 2023. Mark has a passion for New Zealand architecture. His appreciation of carpentry and the honest use of materials has been enhanced by his time spent working as a hammer hand with construction companies.
