Grafton

An experiment with the ambiguities of the urban live and work blend: this building achieved a Mixed Use NZIA Local Award.
Occupying a tiny wedge- shaped site beside a railway gully and between residential and commercial zoning, this imposter toughs it out with a tough concrete, steel and zinc exterior. The form cranks to mimic rail carriages, dividing working zones from residential spaces. A shared stairwell with floating oak treads rises across seven staggered levels to arrive at rooftop decks.
